Anita Marangoly George appointed as Independent Director of Tata Sons

  • The ongoing Tata-Kerala bonhomie, when it comes to corporate leadership

Mumbai: Malayalee Anita Marangoli George has been appointed as Independent Director of Tata Sons. The matter is confirmed by Tata Sons today. An alumnus of Boston University, Anita has held various roles at Canada’s second largest pension fund, CDPQV for the past 4 years.

Prior to that, he worked with the World Bank for 22 years in various capacities. During the period, Anita led the formation of numerous agreements between countries and organizations in the field of climate change. She has been in the process of setting up a sustainable development fund with similar minds.

Anita also serves as the President of Indo Canadian Business Chamber since 2020. She is an Independent Director at First Solar, a leading American solar technology company and Piramal Enterprises. Anita is one of the world’s foremost professionals in the field of sustainable development.

Before joining the World Bank, she has also worked with prestigious organizations such as International Finance Corporation, Siemens and Steel Authority of India. She holds a master’s degree in business administration and economic policy from Boston University.

Another milestone in the Tata-Kerala bonhomie

Anita’s appointment to the Tata Sons board comes as another notable milestone in the ongoing appointments of Malayalee corporate leaders at the group’s helm for past couple of decades. Padma Shri winner and legendary corporate leader R. K. Krishna Kumar is a former director of Tata Sons who had been a key member in the closed circle of Ratan Tata. His son Ajit Krishnakumar is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Tata Consumer Products.

Another Malayalee, T Damu was the former director of Tata Tea and Taj Hotels. In 2017, Tata Sons appointed Roopa Purushothaman as the group’s chief economist and head, policy advocacy. One of the iconic faces in Tata group today is Rajesh Gopinathan who is the CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services, a global IT giant and the group’s largest company. And now Anita Marangoli George is also getting added to the list.
